FAQs

  • The Fund The Patient movement offers a better path forward for America’s failing health care system. Instead of maintaining a broken system or moving to an entirely government-controlled system, Fund The Patient champions policies that put health care dollars that go to third parties into patients’ hands, empowering them to make their own health care decisions.

  • Our movement includes doctors, patient advocates, and health policy scholars who seek to transform America’s health care policy to deliver better prices and outcomes for patients.

  • Right now, millions of Americans pay thousands of dollars each year to insurance companies and government programs, yet see little real value in return. The Fund the Patient movement will change that by ensuring health care dollars follow the patient, not the bureaucracy.

When patients control the money, they get care that meets their needs, not what a third party allows. And taxpayers benefit too. By cutting waste and inefficiency, these reforms return value to the people who fund the system, creating a more effective way to pay for care.

  • While many health policy organizations focus on the big players in health care – insurance companies, government agencies, and big hospital systems – the Fund The Patient movement puts the focus on patients and their doctors.

By putting the patient–doctor relationship at the center of our health care system, we can expand choice, improve access, and deliver quality care at lower prices.

  • The Fund The Patient movement supports policies that prioritize patient choice and empowerment, as well as those that expand access to care. Some featured policies include expanding access to health savings accounts (HSAs), which allow patients to save money tax-free for medical care.

Other potential policies can expand access to care, such as repealing certificate-of-need laws that prevent qualified medical professionals from opening their own practices.
